Description

Need to treat hives faster than using a wand? This is what you have been looking for! Vaporizes Oxalic Acid in 20 seconds, then allow the unit to heat back up. I literately treat 6-7 hives in 10 mins by myself. Simply plug into 110v outlet, you can use an inverter and a vehicle battery (lawn mower, golf cart, tractor, car), 12v jumper box or small generator. The ProVap takes only 2 minutes to warm up with its temperature displayed on the large digital screen. Place a dry rag across the front entrance and if you have a screen bb, insert the debris tray.  Place the needed amount of OA into the cap (@ 3/4g for a 5F nuc, 1g for an 8/10F brood box 2g for a double deep or 3 mediums). With the unit upside down, place the cap on it, insert nozzle into either a 1/4″ hole you drill into the back of the bottom board (using a golf tee to close the hole up) or place the nozzle in the front entrance of the the hive and flip the unit right side up. This allows the OA to fall into the burner pan and vapor begins to exit the nozzle into the hive. Watch the LCD display and when the temp is back to normal, remove the nozzle and prepare for the next hive. Be sure to keep hive closed for 10 minutes. If you have a second cap prepared, you can move right into the next hive with no cool down time between hives. Perfect for sidelines or beekeepers with more than 10 hives. Some friends or clubs purchase together and share, like a co-op.

This treatment can be done throughout the year as long as honey supers are removed prior to treatment. They can be replaced in as little as 15 minutes after completing the treatment. OA only treats mites on the adult bees and open brood, so you must treat through the brood cycle. It works best if there is no capped brood and/ or if the hive is not clustered. Some have been successful treating with capped brood doing 4 or 5 treatments 5 days apart. Winter treatments can be done on days above 40 degrees since the bees break cluster enough for the vapor to reach them. One treatment is usually sufficient in the winter due to the brood break.

PPE: Be sure to wear nitrile gloves, a quality respirator and safety glasses.

*We recommend using a Varroa Easy Check for an accurate mite count before and after treating.

*Varroa Mites are a HUGE problem and the #1 natural cause of a colonies mortality. (#1 is actually the beekeeper).  Please research Varroa and understand alllllll of the different treatment options and the mite it’s self by clicking The Honeybee Health Coalition non profit site
