A reusable trap that is easy to use and draws the hive beetles to it. Open the lid of the trap and fill the side compartments with Diatomaceous Earth. We do not use a bait but the center compartment can be filled with bait such as a piece of pollen patty. Then place the Beetle Jail between the frames of the brood box. When you do your next inspection, empty the trap and refill. Spaces are small enough that bees cannot pass into the side compartments.
*Pro tip – If Diatomaceous Earth is used, the beetles dry out. If oil is used, the oil can start to go rancid with the beetles in it, and the bees may start to propolis the gaps closed.
*When filling a lot of traps with DE, we use a squeeze bottle with a small nozzle, makes it a breeze.
