Thymol, a derivative of the herb thyme, is used in slow release gel to treat for the varroa destructor mite, tracheal mites, and chalk brood. With an efficacy rate of 85 to 95 %, on average 93%, this treatment is very effective. It works through bees carrying gel out of the hive, leaving trace amounts behind and spreading it onto other bees. Bees then groom the traces off, spreading it to more bees and encouraging hygienic behavior. As the gel makes it way through the hive, it releases the thymol at a steady rate. Best used in temperatures above 60 degrees F / below 100 degrees F and when there is no nectar flow.
Easy to use:
Trays: Peel back the lid and place in hive for 2 weeks. Replace with a 2nd tray for an additional 2-4 weeks. Ideal treatment period is 6 weeks. 10 pack treats 5 hives.
Tub: Stir well and use the provided syringe to place 50g Apiguard into tray provided. Leave for 2 weeks, then repeat, leaving in for 2-4 weeks. Ideal treatment period is 6 weeks. Tub treats 30 full colonies or more if they are small colonies
PPE: When handling strips be sure to wear nitrile gloves. If using a syringe, wear eye protection and long sleeves.
*We recommend using a Varroa Easy Check for an accurate mite count before and after treating.
*Varroa Mites are a HUGE problem and the #1 natural cause of a colonies mortality. (#1 is actually the beekeeper). Please research Varroa and understand alllllll of the different treatment options and the mite itself by clicking The Honeybee Health Coalition non profit site
